Free tools from Google, Microsoft, the World Bank and the IMF, each with what it actually answers. Every link verified 15 September 2026.
Most "free tools" lists are affiliate pages for paid products with a free tier. Nothing here has a sales step. Each entry says what the tool actually answers, because that is the part a list usually leaves out — and the reason a directory like this is worth keeping is the date at the top, not the length of it.
What your own site is doing
- Google Search Console: Measures the traffic Google actually sends you — queries, impressions, clicks, average position — and reports indexing status and crawl errors. The only place you can see which queries you appear for and choose not to be clicked on.
- Bing Webmaster Tools: The same class of reporting for Bing, which also feeds several other engines and assistants. Worth having because its index and its query data differ from Google’s.
- PageSpeed Insights: Runs Lighthouse against a URL and reports loading performance on mobile and desktop, with field data where enough real visits exist.
What people are looking for
- Google Trends: Relative search interest for terms and topics over time and by place. It reports interest relative to itself, never absolute volume, which is the most common misreading of it.
- Google Dataset Search: A search engine over published datasets rather than pages. Useful when you need the table behind a figure instead of an article about it.
- Google Scholar: Scholarly literature across disciplines — articles, theses, books, abstracts. The citation counts are indicative rather than authoritative.
Official data, free at source
- World Bank Open Data: Free and open access to global development indicators as time series by country, with a public API. The source behind a great many figures that circulate without attribution.
- IMF Data: The IMF’s current data portal, including the World Economic Outlook and consumer price series. Its predecessor at imf.org/en/Data is being retired, so link this one.
- Eurostat database: European statistics at source, free to browse and download, with an API. Where a figure about the EU should come from rather than an aggregator quoting it.
How this page is maintained
Every URL above was fetched on 15 September 2026 and answered. Two are recorded with a caveat rather than quietly: Bing Webmaster Tools and the Eurostat database render their content behind JavaScript, so the service was confirmed and the page contents were not read. One address changed during the check — the IMF’s legacy portal is being retired, and the current one is listed instead.
A link directory is only worth keeping if it says when it was last verified. The estate’s own RSS shelf lost a third of its entries to publishers quietly dropping feeds, which is what an unchecked list becomes.
