Official figures, each with its source and the date it was read — the key-facts panel above is rounded and undated.

Trade & FTA

Trade agreements (8): In a customs union with the EU for industrial goods and negotiating a deeper EU Association Agreement — but as a non-EU state it is not directly covered by the newly concluded India–EU FTA; Indian goods typically arrive via Spanish and French distributors.

Passport strength: visa-free/VOA to ~160 destinations. Microstate passport; uses Schengen visa system via France/Spain.

Visas & entry

Andorra issues no visas of its own, so Indian passport holders should carry a multiple-entry Schengen visa — you technically exit Schengen (France or Spain) to enter and must re-enter it to leave. Visa-free Schengen nationals simply bus or drive in; passports are rarely stamped.

e-Visa: yes · Visa on arrival: Varies by nationality

Whether you need one: Third-country nationals not on the EU's Schengen visa-exemption list require a Schengen (Type C) visa to enter the Schengen area, for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period (European Commission, Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs). Andorra is not an EU member state and has no international airport or railway of its own; its only land connections are through France and Spain, both Schengen members, so practical entry runs through Schengen rules applied at those borders. An Andorra-government page confirming its own entry framework directly could not be fetched this session — see deferred[].

When the requirement applies: Indian ordinary-passport holders

How you apply: Schengen (Type C) visa, issued by a French or Spanish consulate — not by any Andorran authority. This specific point (that Andorra operates no visa-issuing authority of its own) is the working premise for this research lane but was not independently verified against an Andorran government source this session: https://www.exteriors.ad blocked automated retrieval (robots.txt).

How long you may stay: Up to 90 days within any 180-day period, under the Schengen short-stay rule (European Commission).

Fee: Not sourced this session — a Schengen visa fee is set by the issuing consulate (France or Spain), not by Andorra; no specific figure was fetched.

Source freshness: European Commission Schengen visa-policy page displays a 23 June 2025 update date — about 14 months before this research date, within the 18-month freshness window. No Andorra-government page could be confirmed this session.

Getting around

No airport, no railway: arrive by coach (Andbus or Direct Bus, about 3 hours from Barcelona or from Toulouse). Frequent local buses link the seven parishes along the main valley road.

Car vs taxi: A car or the Barcelona/Toulouse coaches are the practical way in, and wheels help for the Grandvalira and Vallnord ski areas; taxis exist but are limited and pricey. Andorra la Vella itself is compactly walkable.

Money, SIM & tipping

Money: Uses the euro despite not being an EU member, even minting its own Andorran coins. Duty-free shopping on electronics, perfume and tobacco is a national sport, and cards are accepted everywhere.

SIM & data: Andorra Telecom is the country's only operator, and Andorra sits outside EU roam-like-home — EU or Indian roaming SIMs can rack up charges here. Buy a local prepaid or lean on hotel Wi-Fi.

Tipping: Not obligatory — service is included, Spanish-style; rounding up or leaving 5–10% for good service is appreciated.

Culture & language

Etiquette: Catalan is the official language — open with 'Bon dia' — though Spanish and French are universal. Shops often close for a long lunch; dress warmly for mountain restaurants.

Food: Try escudella (the hearty national stew), trinxat (cabbage, potato and bacon hash) and grilled meats at a traditional borda farmhouse restaurant. Pyrenean wines are a small but proud niche.

Say hello: Local language — “Hello” · thanks “Thank you” · how much? “How much?”

Safety & emergency

One of Europe's lowest crime rates — the real risks are alpine: ski injuries, sudden mountain weather and icy roads. Carry snow chains in winter.

Living, nomad & costs

For nomads: Andorra la Vella attracts tech workers and expats with tax benefits and mountain lifestyle; growing digital economy.

Education: Limited international schooling; higher education often pursued in France or Spain.

Healthcare: Modern healthcare; costs higher due to Alpine location and small population.

Trade deep-dive

Andorra is a microstate economy of tourism (skiing), duty-free retail and a growing financial and services sector.

Trade framework: In a customs union with the EU for industrial goods and negotiating a deeper EU Association Agreement — but as a non-EU state it is not directly covered by the newly concluded India–EU FTA; Indian goods typically arrive via Spanish and French distributors.

India angle: India engages minimally, mainly via tourism.

Outlook: tourism and services diversification define the outlook.

Bloc — EU Customs Union: Andorra is linked to the European Union through a customs-union arrangement covering industrial goods, administered via its bilateral relationship with France and Spain, while agricultural goods fall outside this framework. This customs structure anchors Andorra's trade relationship with the surrounding European single market.

Sector — Alpine Tourism: Andorra's Pyrenees mountain geography anchors a structurally dominant winter-sports and alpine-tourism sector, drawing visitors primarily from France and Spain for skiing and duty-free shopping. This tourism base is a geography-stable feature central to the microstate's economic identity.

Sector — Banking & Financial Services: Beyond tourism, Andorra maintains a structurally significant banking and wealth-management sector, a policy-driven feature reflecting the microstate's historical low-tax positioning within the wider European financial landscape. Financial services sit alongside duty-free retail as a principal structural pillar.

Future vector — EU Association Agreement: Andorra is negotiating a deeper EU Association Agreement in parallel with San Marino, a future-vector theme that would extend the microstate's market-access terms with the European Union beyond the existing industrial-goods customs arrangement, potentially reaching into services and labour mobility.
