India × Colombia hub ↗ All countries factsheet
Indian ordinary-passport holders need a Colombian visa before travel — India is not among the nationalities Colombia exempts under Resolución 5488 de 2022. The route is the Visitante (V) visa in its Tourism or Business subcategory, applied for and approved entirely online through the Cancillería's digital visa platform, with no in-person consular appointment required. A V Turismo visa can carry validity of up to one year, permitting stays of up to 90 days per entry and a maximum of 180 days in total.
e-Visa: yes — the Visitante (V) visa is applied for and granted online · Visa on arrival: no · Digital-nomad visa: Digital Nomad (V) Visa
Whether you need one: Indian ordinary-passport holders require a Colombian visa before travel. India does not appear among the nationalities Colombia exempts from visas under Resolución 5488 de 2022, per the Cancillería's live visa-requirement guidance ("Necesito un visa").
When the requirement applies: Indian ordinary-passport holders
How you apply: e-Visa — the Visitante (V) visa (Tourism or Business subcategory) is applied for and approved entirely online through the Cancillería's digital visa platform; no in-person consular appointment is required for these categories.
How long you may stay: V Turismo: visa validity up to 1 year, permitting stays of up to 90 days per entry, extendable to a maximum of 180 days (continuous or non-continuous) in any 365-day period; no work authorised. V Negocios: visa validity up to 2 years, same 180-day/365-day stay cap, non-renewable; no work authorised. Both categories require proof of health insurance, return/onward flight reservations, and economic solvency (income of at least 10 minimum monthly salaries).
Source freshness: Cancillería's live trámites-y-servicios visa pages ("necesito-un-visa", "tipos-de-visa") carry no visible last-updated date — they are continuously maintained transactional service pages rather than dated notices, so the 18-month staleness test does not directly apply; treated as current live guidance. A separately found Colombian-consulate notice (nuevadelhi.consulado.gov.co, dated 12 July 2021, COVID-era) was NOT used as a source — it fails the freshness gate by several years.

Flights for distance, Medellín's metrocable, and buses and taxis in most cities.
Car vs taxi: Rent only for rural coffee country; use Uber/DiDi in Bogotá/Medellín.
Money: Cards in cities; cash in smaller towns; withdraw from ATMs in daylight.
SIM & data: eSIMs work well; cheap SIMs (Claro, Movistar, Tigo) at Bogotá and Medellín airports.
Tipping: A voluntary 10% is often asked at restaurants; tip guides and drivers.
Etiquette: Greetings are warm with handshakes or cheek kisses; punctuality is relaxed.
Food: Try bandeja paisa, arepas and ajiaco; tap water is fine in Bogotá/Medellín.
Say hello: Spanish — “Hola” · thanks “Gracias” · how much? “¿Cuánto cuesta esto?”
Much improved; stay cautious in some areas and use registered taxis at night.
For nomads: Growing digital nomad hub in Medellín and Bogotá with affordable living, improving security, and active coworking communities.
Education: Affordable Spanish courses especially in Medellín; budget-friendly universities.
Healthcare: Good value healthcare quality in urban areas; significantly cheaper than regional peers.
Prices: IPC up 6.03% in the 12 months to July 2026 (month-on-month +0.17%; year-to-date +4.94%)
Monetary policy: Banco de la República held its benchmark rate at 12% on 31 July 2026 (vote 4-3), against June 2026 headline inflation of 6.1% and analyst forecasts around 6.6% for December 2026
Neighbour comparison: Colombia's DANE put annual CPI at 6.03% for the 12 months to July 2026, while neighbouring Ecuador's INEC recorded just 1.39% over the same 12 months (with prices actually falling 0.09% month-on-month in July) — Ecuador's dollarised, import-anchored price regime is running at roughly a fifth of Colombia's pace. For Indian relocators weighing Bogotá against Quito or Guayaquil, that's a materially different cost-drift picture, not a marginal one.

Colombia's full-year 2025 exports reached US$50,199.9 million FOB, up 1.3% on 2024's US$49,556.5 million (DANE, bulletin published 3 February 2026). The composition shifted hard beneath that modest headline: agricultural and food exports jumped 33.2% to US$15,307.4 million, while combustibles and extractive-industry exports fell 17.9% to US$19,190.1 million. Coffee led the agro surge, up 70.2% to US$5,853.8 million, with palm oil up 83.6% to US$811.5 million and bananas up 25.1% to US$1,532.7 million; on the other side, coal fell 31.0% and cut-flower exports fell 9.0% year-on-year.
India implication: India barely features in Colombia's coffee trade today — the officially stated India lane runs the other way, dominated by India's own exports of vehicles, pharmaceuticals and chemicals into Colombia (Embassy of India, Bogotá) — but a fast-growing Indian specialty-coffee culture and India's own robusta export base make Colombian arabica a plausible sourcing diversification for Indian roasters currently concentrated on Vietnam and Brazil.
Outlook: DANE's own framing is a basket rebalancing away from fuels toward agro products; whether that holds through 2026 depends on the coffee price cycle that drove most of the 2025 gain, versus the structural decline in coal and oil.
Colombia is a founding member of the Andean Community (Comunidad Andina), alongside Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. Intra-CAN trade totalled US$9,152 million in 2024, with manufactured goods making up 82.9% of everything traded between the four members; Colombia's own exports to the bloc were 82.5% manufactures — medicines, sugar, surfactant/cleaning preparations and jet fuel are the named lines — while Colombia's total exports to the world that year were US$49,556 million, the bloc's second-largest behind Peru's US$72,269 million (Comunidad Andina, published 15 April 2025).
India implication: India has no preferential trade agreement with the Andean Community as a bloc, so Indian exporters face the CAN's common external tariff on manufactured lines selling into Colombia — exactly the category (medicines, chemicals, refined fuels) where the bloc's own members already trade heavily with each other.
Outlook: With Peru outpacing Colombia as the bloc's top exporter, Colombia's manufactures-heavy trade with its Andean neighbours is a sturdier diversification story than its commodity-cycle-driven trade with the rest of the world — a fact any future India-CAN framework discussion would have to reckon with.
Officially stated bilateral trade reached US$4.72 billion in FY2024-25, up from US$4.31 billion in FY2023-24 — India's exports to Colombia were US$1.47 billion, Colombia's exports to India US$3.25 billion (Embassy of India, Bogotá, updated 12 June 2025). India's outbound basket is vehicles, engineering goods, chemicals, cotton and pharmaceuticals; Colombia ships back mineral fuels (oil and coal), gold, emeralds, aluminium and zinc (MEA bilateral brief, October 2023). An Indian community of roughly 1,200, mostly company professionals, sits alongside the trade relationship.
India implication: The vehicle and pharmaceutical lines are the parts of this trade India controls directly — Indian two-wheeler and generic-drug exporters are already inside Colombia's import basket — and DANE's own year-end 2025 bulletin ranks India as Colombia's third-largest single export destination, behind only the United States and Panama and ahead of Brazil, a ranking driven overwhelmingly by fuel and mineral shipments rather than manufactures.
Outlook: The asymmetry — India selling manufactures, Colombia selling commodities — mirrors the shape of most of Colombia's non-U.S. trade relationships; the swing factor is whether Colombia's fuel shipments to India keep growing even as the country's overall extractives basket shrinks (DANE: combustibles -17.9% in 2025).
India's state explorer ONGC Videsh holds roughly US$1.5 billion invested in Colombia through the Mansarovar Energy joint venture — the largest concrete Indian capital position named in either the MEA's bilateral brief (October 2023) or the Bogotá embassy's own update (June 2025), well ahead of the US$300-500 million of other Indian investment the two sources separately cite. That bet sits against a national oil-and-coal export line that DANE's year-end 2025 data shows falling 17.9% year-on-year, with coal down 31.0%.
India implication: Mansarovar is the one Indian asset directly exposed to Colombia's extractive-sector trajectory; as the combustibles share of Colombia's export basket keeps shrinking in favour of agro products, it is the clearest test of whether India's energy-security calculus in Colombia holds, or whether fresh capital rotates toward the agro/manufactures lane instead.
Outlook: Watch whether ONGC Videsh's Colombian production volumes or any fresh Indian energy investment appear in the next MEA or embassy update, set against DANE's declining extractives trend.

Yes — a visa is required. India does not appear on the list of nationalities Colombia exempts from visas under Resolución 5488 de 2022, per the Cancillería's live visa-requirement guidance. Indian ordinary-passport holders apply for a Visitante (V) visa — Tourism or Business — entirely online through the Cancillería's digital platform, with no consulate visit required. The Tourism V visa is valid up to one year and permits stays of up to 90 days per entry, extendable to a maximum of 180 days (continuous or non-continuous) in any 365-day period.

India's ONGC Videsh holds roughly US$1.5 billion invested via the Mansarovar Energy joint venture, and DANE's year-end 2025 trade data ranks India as Colombia's third-largest export destination overall. Around 1,200 Indians live in Colombia, mostly company professionals.
Consumer prices rose 6.03% in the 12 months to July 2026 (DANE), still well above target; Banco de la República held its policy rate at 12% at its 31 July 2026 meeting, citing June 2026 headline inflation of 6.1% driven mainly by food and regulated items. That's a much hotter print than dollarised neighbour Ecuador, where INEC recorded just 1.39% annual inflation over the same 12 months.
Colombia is a founding member of the Andean Community (Comunidad Andina) alongside Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. Intra-bloc trade totalled US$9,152 million in 2024, 82.9% of it manufactured goods; Colombia's own exports to the bloc were 82.5% manufactures, and its US$49,556 million in total 2024 exports made it the bloc's second-largest exporter behind Peru.
Yes, at least in 2025: DANE's year-end bulletin shows total exports of US$50,199.9 million (+1.3%), but combustibles and extractives fell 17.9% to US$19,190.1 million while agricultural and food exports jumped 33.2% to US$15,307.4 million, led by coffee's 70.2% surge to US$5,853.8 million. Coal fell 31.0% and cut-flower exports fell 9.0% over the same year.
ONGC Videsh's stake in the Mansarovar Energy joint venture, valued at roughly US$1.5 billion in both the MEA's bilateral brief and the Bogotá embassy's own update — well ahead of the US$300-500 million of other Indian investment the two sources cite separately.
