List what a target role needs, mark how important each one is, and rate yourself honestly. The tool multiplies importance by shortfall and puts the gaps in the order worth closing them. Everything is self-reported — no role definition, no skills taxonomy and no assessment. The priority ordering is the only thing this adds, and it is arithmetic.
The arithmetic
Shortfall = 5 − your current level, so an expert rating scores zero gap regardless of importance.
Self-ratings are unreliable in both directions. People overrate familiar skills and underrate ones they use without noticing. If you can, have someone who has seen your work rate you too and compare.
Honest limits
No skills taxonomy and no role definitions are embedded. What a job title requires differs by employer, seniority and country; the skill list is yours to write.
Importance is a judgement, and usually the employer’s rather than yours. Read several postings for the target role before deciding what is essential.
Not everything that matters is a skill. Track record, network, timing and how well you interview all sit outside this arithmetic and often outweigh it.
Sources
None. No skills framework, competency model, role taxonomy or labour-market dataset is embedded, fetched or implied — every entry is yours.
