Project a retirement corpus from what goes in each month, what your employer adds, and the rate your scheme currently pays. The rate is yours to enter — provident-fund and pension rates are notified periodically and revised, so nothing is embedded here. Check the current figure with your scheme administrator before trusting the number.

The formula, written out

• Total monthly in = your contribution + your contribution × employer match %
• Monthly rate i = annual rate ÷ 100 ÷ 12; N = years × 12. Contributions are treated as arriving at the end of each month and compounding monthly.
• Corpus = existing balance × (1 + i)^N + monthly in × ((1 + i)^N − 1) ÷ i
• Total contributed = existing balance + monthly in × N · Interest earned = corpus − total contributed

Honest limits

• No scheme rate is embedded, for any scheme, anywhere. Provident-fund and pension rates are notified and revised — check the current one with your scheme administrator or its official portal, and re-run this when it changes.
• Real schemes do not compound monthly at a flat rate. Interest crediting conventions differ between schemes and some credit annually on a running balance; contribution ceilings, wage caps and split allocations between accounts are not modelled. Treat this as the shape of the curve, not a statement of your balance.
• Salary growth is not modelled. If your contribution rises with your pay, this understates the corpus; if you switch employers or take a break, it overstates it.
• Not advice, and no rate is suggested. Nothing here recommends a scheme, a contribution level or a retirement plan. Nothing adjusts for inflation or tax on withdrawal.
