Certification ensuring agricultural products are produced sustainably with high social and environmental standards.
The Rainforest Alliance states that its “certification program supports better farmer livelihoods, human rights, good environmental practices, and climate resilience”, and that the seal “means that the product (or a specified ingredient) was produced by farmers, foresters, and/or companies working together to create a world where people and nature thrive in harmony”. Note the parenthesis — or a specified ingredient: the seal can certify one ingredient rather than the whole product, which is why percentage claims appear on pack. The organisation currently offers Sustainable Agriculture and Regenerative Agriculture certification.
