Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority — promotes Indian agro-food exports.
APEDA is a statutory authority, established under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act, 1985 — “An Act to provide for the establishment of an Authority for the development and promotion of exports of certain agricultural and processed food products and for matters connected therewith”, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The phrase to notice is certain agricultural and processed food products: APEDA’s remit is a scheduled list rather than all agri-exports, which is why some agricultural products fall to other bodies entirely. One bibliographic quirk: the Act is titled 1985 and India Code records it as Act 02 of 1986 — the short title and the act number come from different moments, passage and assent, and both are given here rather than one being quietly chosen.
India Code publishes the Act itself, which is a stronger source here than an institutional “about us” page: a website describes a body, an Act constitutes it. What is quoted above is the Act’s long title — the purpose Parliament gave it — and nothing more. No section of any Act is quoted or cited on this page, because India Code’s section-level pages did not serve readable text; procedural detail, eligibility and thresholds are in the Act and its rules, not here.
